It is overstatement and violation of human rights. It means that all Muslims are barred from speaking, whereas in Islam, Muslims are suggested to spread Islamic teachings and deliver them even if it is one verse,” said Mahfud on the sidelines of the 56th anniversary of Hasanuddin University, Makassar, South Sulawesi on Monday. He added that even though the certification of clerics would be implemented, the ones who should be in charge of it were also clerics, not the police, and that would mean all Muslims should be certified as well. That was clearly violation of human rights and should be opposed by society, he said. “If it is implemented, the state would be oppressing its citizens instead of protecting them,” he said. He added that the BNPT was supposed to realize that there were many clerics with strong nationalistic ties and only few who produced terrorists. “Cleric certification means identifying clerics with terrorists,” he said. “The state is supposed to settle each and every case of terrorism instead of creating new unrest,” Mahfud said.(iwa) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
