Megawati for president, and jokowi for vice-president is the ideal couple
for the next election

PDI-P Asks Joko to Focus on Being Governor, Not on Running for President
Markus Junianto Sihaloho, SP/Carlos Paath | February 0

The Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle has asked Jakarta Governor Joko
Widodo to ignore surveys naming him as a leading presidential candidate and
to focus on developing the city instead.

"I think we should let Jokowi [Joko] work on his promises to develop Jakarta
for the next five years as the governor," said Tjahjo Kumolo, the party's
secretary general on Thursday.

Tjahjo said if Joko ran for president it would set a bad precedent, as the
governor was still in the process of fulfilling his promises to the people
of Jakarta.

Tjahjo added that he was convinced that Joko would not accept an offer from
a political party to run as a presidential candidate.

"We know him as an obedient figure who would sincerely do any task assigned
to him by his political party and the task to lead this city as expected by
Jakarta residences," he said.

In a poll, with 1,200 respondents from 30 provinces, conducted by the United
Data Center (PDB) last month, Joko was the figure most people wanted to see
as president in the 2014 election.

Joko received 21.2 percent of votes in the poll and Prabowo Subianto, a
retired army general, came in second with 17.1 percent.

In third place was Megawati Sukarnoputri, the former president and current
leader of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), with 11.5
percent, followed by Rhoma Irama, a dangdut singer turned conservative
cleric, with 10.4 percent. Aburizal Bakrie, the chairman of the Golkar Party
was in fifth place with 9.7 percent, followed by his party predecessor,
Jusuf Kalla, with 7.1 percent.

Joko also topped the PDB’s poll of most popular vice presidential candidates

Another PDI-P politician, AP Batubara, agreed with Tjahjo and said Joko was
an ideologist figure who would not leave his party just because another
party offered to nominate him as a president.

“It's practically impossible for him to betray PDI-P, he is a very loyal
cadre and a very ideologist person,' he said.

Batubara said while PDB's poll should be appreciated, he was convinced that
the most popular presidential candidate from PDI-P was still Megawati.

"We shouldn't rush, we still have two years to choose our presidential
candidate, but personally I think until today no one has surpassed Megawati
as the favorite presidential candidate,"he said.
