"Un-Islamic"

The Islamic way of making love to your wife!

By
Karim
(He is a new convert to Islam, from the Netherlands)

A husband must exercise intercourse within the Qur’anic paradigm of love and
mercy.

“The most perfect of believers are those most perfect of character; and the
best of you are the best of you to your spouses.” [Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban]

And of His signs is this: He created for you spouses from yourselves that ye
might find rest in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Lo! herein
indeed are portents for folk who reflect. (Quran 30:21)

“The best of you are the best to their wives, and I am the best of you with my
wives.” [Ibn Hibban]

Foreplay between the spouses before actually engaging into sexual intercourse
is immensely important (especially for the wife) and a vital ingredient for a
happy and prosperous marriage, that which should never be neglected.

The husband should sexually arouse his wife before having sex. It is indeed
selfish on the husband’s part that he fulfils his sexual needs and desires,
whilst his wife remains unsatisfied and discontented. Failure in satisfying the
wife can have terrible consequences on one’s marriage.

Thats why the prophet forbade sexual intercouse without foreplay, to guarantee
and to protect the sexual pleasures and rights of the wife in bed.

Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (Allah have mercy on him) reports in his famous “Tibb
al-Nabawi” that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace)
forbade from engaging in sexual intercourse before foreplay. (See: al-Tibb
al-Nabawi, 183, from Jabir ibn Abd Allah)

Islam recognizes a woman’s need of love, affection and foreplay. Women tend to
be more romantic than men. They like to hear tender words, to be praised, to
feel that they are being cared for, to be the main concern of their husbands
and the one to whom he directs his ardent love (thats why the prophet forbade
engaging in sexual intercourse before foreplay). In Islam it is a women’s right
to be satisfied by her husband in bed. Islam stresses the importance of mutual
sexual satisfaction between marriage partners in the following quranic verse:

It is lawful for you to go in unto your wives during the night preceding the
(day's) fast: they are as a garment for you, and you are as a garment for them.
God is aware that you would have deprived yourselves of this right, and so He
has turned unto you in His mercy and removed this hardship from you. Now, then,
you may lie with them skin to skin, and avail yourselves to that which God has
ordained for you.(Qur’an 2:187)

A garment brings satisfaction, comfort, protection and warmness! These are the
things a husband must strife to give his wife during intercourse!

Tafsir Ibn Kathir

Allah said:

(They are Libas [i.e., body-cover, or screen] for you and you are Libas for
them.)

Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, Sa`id bin Jubayr, Al-Hasan, Qatadah, As-Suddi and Muqatil
bin Hayyan said that this Ayah means, "Your wives are a resort for you and you
for them.''

Source: http://www.tafsir.com/default.asp?sid=2&tid=4805

So we clearly see that the sahaba (companions of the prophet) understood that
during sexual intercouse each spouse has to be a resort for the other ( by
satisfying each others sexuel needs, just like a garment brings comfort and
satisfaction)

Also, Muslims are advised to avoid sexual intercourse during menses so as not
to cause discomfort to the woman (Quran 2:222).

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) also stated: “Every
game a person plays is futile except for archery, training one’s horse and
playing with one’s wife(foreplay and kissing) ”. (Sunan Tirmidhi, Musnad Ahmad,
Sunan Ibn Majah).

Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will;
but do some good act for your souls beforehand; and fear Allah. And know that
ye are to meet Him (in the Hereafter), and give (these) good tidings to those
who believe. (Quran, 2:223)

The wisedome of Allah swt for using the words ‘Your wives are as a tilth unto
you’ :

Sex is not a thing to be ashamed off, or to be treated lightly , or to be
indulged to the excess. It is as solemn a fact as any in life. It is compared
to as husbandman’s tilth; it is a serious affair to him; he sows the seed in
order to reap the harvest. But he chooses his own time and mode of cultivation.
He does not sow out of season nor cultivate in a manner which will injure or
exhaust the soil. He is wise and considerate and does not run riot. Coming from
the simile to human beings, every kind of mutual consideration is required ,
but above all, we must remember that even in these matters there is a spiritual
aspect. We must never forget our souls, and that we are responsible to Allah (
The Meaning of The Holy Qur’an, Abdullah Yusuf Ali, page 90, commentary note
249)

Commentary of Mawlana-Abul-Ala-Mawdudi:"The farmer sows the seed in order to
reap the harvest, but he does not sow it out of season or cultivate it in a
manner which will injure or exhaust the soil. He is wise and considerate, and
does not run riot." (Afzalur Rahman, Quranic Sciences, London 1981, p.285)

The words ‘and fear Allah (2:223) ‘ , shows how important it is in Islam for
husbands to act in a proper and loving way with their wives during intercourse.

If any of you has sex with his wife let he be true to her. If he attains his
pleasure before her then he shouldn't hurry her away until she also attains her
pleasure." (narrated by Anas )

Imam al-Daylami (Allah have mercy on him) records a narration on the authority
of Anas ibn Malik (Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah
(Allah bless him & give him peace) is reported to have said: “One of you should
not fulfil one’s (sexual) need from one’s wife like an animal, rather there
should be between them foreplay of kissing and words.” (Musnad al-Firdaws Of
al-Daylami, 2/55)

Kissing:

Kissing one’s spouse is also of utmost importance in general. It is a Sunnah of
our blessed Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace).

Sayyida A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah
(Allah bless him & give him peace) would kiss one of his wives and then leave
for prayer (salat) without performing ablution (wudu). Urwa says that I asked
A’isha: “It must have been you?” (Upon hearing this) A’isha (Allah be pleased
with her) smiled.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 86, Sunan Abu Dawud, no. 181 & Sunan
al-Nasa’i, no. 170))

Sayyida A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) says: “The Messenger of Allah (Allah
bless him & give him peace) would kiss me before leaving for prayers, and he
would not perform an ablution.” (Sunan al-Darqutni, 1/49 and others)

The above two narrations indicate the recommendation of kissing one’s spouse.
They also show the importance of greeting the wife when entering the house with
a kiss and departing with a kiss. This was the Sunnah of the beloved of Allah
(Allah bless him & give him peace). Thus, it is inappropriate for husbands to
leave the home in a hurry without even greeting the wife in a proper manner
with hugs and kisses, and then entering the house with the first question on
whether the food is cooked or not, or whether had someone called, etc…

Passionate kissing (or French kissing) is also the Sunnah of the Messenger of
Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace).

Sayyida A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah
(Allah bless him & give him peace) would kiss her whilst he was fasting and he
would suck her tongue.” (Sunan Abu Dawud, no. 2378)

Allah has no mother or father, brothers or sisters, friends,
doesn't have anybody, as he is one and unique, according to those who believe
in Allah/God. He could be She, or have no Gender, as to be a man or a woman we
must be born from the union of a man and a woman.

Furthermore, Allah never married or had children, so......what
does Allah know about sex or love, masturbation or rape?

The healthiest way to understand human nature is to look at
nature. How do we come to the world 9 months after our parents enjoyed
themselves in an act of sex/love? naked. How did people live on earth for many
thousands of years, before something to protect themselves from cold, rain,
sun, etc, was invented? naked.

So, the state of nudity is the most natural and human condition
we possess.

                        Assalamu alaikum to all Muslims

Mr. Tariq! Are you in your sense? your statement does
not prove it.
Your are calling such a misguided article as "educated"
article?

This term "marital rape" is introduced by the misguided
and cursed nation and you
                        are so impressed?

Have you studied Islam? If yes, please tell me from
who, kuffaar, jews, hundus or from Muslims? Or you are self made scholar?

This article written by Iftikhar Hai is full of
misguidance and you are advising to circulate?
And why are you recommending women to read it, what to
do women from it? Are you
                        trying to misguide Muslim women?

Marital rape is the cursed on the people who introduced
it, and you are trying to create the space in Islam and Muslims?

Being a respectful person, the minimum thing which
required is
cloths, do you think those who deprived women from even
this
minimum thing, would they worry about anything else for
them?

I have more to say about this term "marital rape" I
will say some
other time but for now just say that there is no such
thing "marital rape"
                        in Islam.

Please learn Islam through Muslims not kuffaar?

                        Farrukh Abidi

                          Masturbation in Islam
Allah (Exalted is He) says: “And those who guard
their private parts from their wives and those (slave-girls) which their
right-hands own - so there is no blame upon them. Then whoever seeks beyond
that (which is lawful), they are the transgressors”.

Masturbation is also considered as “seeking beyond”
with reference to the Quranic verse above.

Suhail son of Sai’d (may Allah be pleased with them)
narrates that the Holy Prophet (Allah’s’ Grace & Peace be upon him) said:
Whoever gives me the assurance (not to unlawfully use) what is between their
jaws and their legs (i.e. the tongue and the private parts), I give them the
assurance of the Heaven. (Bukhari)

Abu Hurrairah (may Allah be pleased with him)
narrates that the Prophet of Allah (Allah’s Grace & Peace be upon him) said:
Whoever Allah protects, from the evil (sh’r) of what is between their jaws and
between their legs, will enter Paradise. [Tirimzi]

Imam Shamsuddin Zahabbi (may Allah be pleased with
him) narrates a Prophetic narration that, “Seven people are such that Allah has
cursed them and He will not even cast a look of mercy upon them on the Day of
Judgment. Allah will tell them to enter Hell with the people who are going to
Hell, except those who repent.
                          1. One who performs the act of sodomy.
                          2. One upon whom the act of sodomy is performed.
                          3. One who does bad deeds with animals.
                          4. One who marries his mother or sister.
                          5. One who masturbates.” (The words of the hadith
says these seven people but lists five - Kitab-ul-Kaba’ir p.48)

Allama Mahmood Alussi (may Allah be pleased with him)
narrates in Ruh-ul-Ma’ni: “Atta (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I
have heard that on the Day of Judgment one group will be brought in such a way
that their hands will be pregnant. I think they are the masturbators.” Allama
Alussi further says: Saéed bin Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates
that the Prophet (Allah’s Grace & Peace be upon him) said: “Allah Exalted will
inflict punishment on a group of people because they misused their private
parts.” (Ruh-ul-Ma'ni p. 291)

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that
the Prophet of Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The person who
performs marriage [nikah] with his hands (i.e. masturbates) is cursed.” (Fatawa
Razaviyya, Vol. 10, p.80)

Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him)
reports that the Holy Prophet (Allah’s Grace & Peace be upon him) said: “O
group of youth! Whoever from among you can marry should do so because it keeps
the gaze low and it protects the private parts. And he who cannot marry should
fast because fasting breaks lust.” (Muslim – Book of Marriage)

Mufti Waqar-ud-din Al-Qadri (Hanfi) writes in
“Waqar-ul-Fatawa” (Vol. 1, P. 269): “If a person is overpowered by sexual
desire such that there is fear of him becoming involved in adultery or he is
not capable of marrying or his wife is so far that he can't go there. Then it
is hoped there is no punishment for the one doing this [masturbation]. It is
written in “Durr-e-Mukhtar” (Vol. 2, Pp 109) (by Sheikh Alla’ud Din Muhammed
son of Ali Haskiffi, died 1088H): ‘If there is fear of committing adultery then
it is hoped that there is no punishment on the one doing this (masturbation)’.
Allama (Syed Mohammed Amin Ash-Shaheerba Bin Abideen) Shammi, (may Allah’s
mercy be upon him, died 1253H) has also argued on this quite a lot and decided
that if he does this with the intention of saving himself from committing sin
it will not be a sin and if he does it with the intention of enjoyment he will
be a sinner.”

The Holy Prophet (Allah’s Grace & Peace be upon him)
said, "No doubt the virtues wipe away the sins". Therefore a masturbator must
repent sincerely with an intention that he will never commit it again and do
good deeds. According to a Prophetic narration, "The one who repents is like
the who does not have any sin."

CONCEPT OF MARITAL RAPE IN ISLAM

                            Asghar Ali Engineer

                            Interpreter of Quranic Wisdom

Until yesterday woman was considered man’s property
after marriage and sexual gratification with her was considered his absolute
right. She could not deny her husband this right whether she wanted or not. In
early eighties of the last century Sisters in Islam, a women’s organization in
Malaysia sent me a query whether there is anything like concept of ‘marital
rape’ in Islam.

I went through all available traditional Islamic
literature and found nothing of the kind and reluctantly replied that such a
concept does not exist. I also studied literature on women’s movement in
various countries and found that no such concept exists in western laws too.
But then I came across a judgment of a British court which came out with this
concept and pronounced husband of a woman guilty for forcing himself on an
unwilling wife.

This set me thinking and urged me to study Qur’an
from this angle. As we all know most of the Qur’anic verses revealed over a
period of 23 years were in response to some or the other problem which arose in
the Prophet’s (PBUH) life. It seems no such problem arose as women in those
days also considered it as their duty to surrender quietly to their husbands’
sexual demands. If not husband who else could make such demand? For the same
reason hadith literature was also silent on this question.

But mere silence does not mean approval. Qur’an is
also silent about punishment for drinking. Does it mean drinking could be
allowed? Not at all. The punishment for drinking was prescribed through
analogical reasoning. Also, the Prophet (PBUH) was strongly in favour of
ijtihad based on Qur’anic values and values of sunnah. It is also important to
note that it would amount to injuring basic spirit of Qur’an to assign fixed
meanings to its verses.

If Qur’an is a book of eternal guidance specially
in new situations arising from time to time, one must have freedom to rethink
meaning of its verses in these novel situations. Also, what is more important
to note is that Qur’an was not meant for guidance of one or two generations of
Arabs but was meant to guide entire humanity of all the times to come. It is
true the Qur’an addresses some specific problems of immediate relevance to the
Arabs of the time.

But Qur’an is much more than that. It gives certain
eternal moral and ethical values and a transcendent vision going much beyond
the time it was revealed in. Only persons of great future vision could capture
this spirit of Qur’an. Again it was for this reason that its verses, ever
dynamic and pregnant with meaning were interpreted in different ways. Also, if
we confine Qur’an to Arab culture, customs and traditions, Qur’an will loose
much of its relevance for coming ages.

What Qur’an prescribed by way of women’s rights was
revolutionary enough. It gave to women what no woman could have imagined at the
time. Yet because of severe constraints of time and extremely low consciousness
of women themselves its revolutionary character was greatly diluted. Now times
are changing fast and women’s consciousness is not what it was when the Ulama
of the time were formulating Shari’ah laws. The whole approach to the divine
text has to change in keeping with the transcendent vision of our own times.

This requires not only the study of Qur’an in great
depth but more than that its real vision. In the past ulama, in keeping with
spirit of their own times considered women, above anything else, a reproductive
agent and also, means for gratification of men’s sexual desires and sadly even
interpreted verses on polygamy and possession of slave girls in this light and
even contemporary ulama talk of polygamy as necessary as women go through
menstrual cycles and pregnancy and hence need more women than one to gratify
their sexual desire. Nothing could be more absurd than this.

Even a cursory study of Qur’an makes it clear that
a woman is as much a spiritual entity with dignity of her own and in no case
lesser in dignity than that of man. Qur’an repeatedly advises men to treat
women in all matters including marriage, divorce and even weaning of children,
with utmost sensitivity, compassion and mercy. The Prophet gave her greatest
respect both as a mother and wife.

It was for this reason that when women asked the
Prophet (PBUH) about their status the verse 33:35 was revealed and gave women
most exalted spiritual status. How can then be they treated as mere object of
sexual desire as most of our ulama reduce them to? Sexual desire is not the end
but means of perpetuating human species and women has more exalted status in
this respect as they fulfill the reproductive function and but for them, human
species would be extinct. Men thus cannot treat women as an object of sexual
desire but most noble means of perpetuating human race.

Thus any attempt to force women to merely fulfill
men’s lust would be un-Qur’anic in spirit and against her dignity and would
amount to marital rape. What is rape after all? To force oneself on her
injuring her human dignity be it within or outside marital frame-work. Love and
tenderness are most fundamental for going near women. It is these feelings
according to Qur’an which creates strong marital bond. If there is no love and
tenderness such a marriage is nothing more than legal fiction for rape.
