Some additional information about the app (I don't know if it's relevant) - I have three classes in it. The first one is the main activity, which right now does nothing at all (I may add some functionality later on). The second one implements a broadcast receiver which listens to incoming SMSs. The last one implements IOIOActivity and is launched whenever an SMS is received.
