I recommend that you separate possible AndroidStudio-related issues from
possible Nexus 5-compatiblity issues.
Try the prebuilt HelloIOIO.apk that's provided in the latest software
bundle on your N5 (after upgrading your IOIO firmware to the latest
version).
There should be no problem using the IOIO v1 with the N5 (with the IOIO
acting as host). The only caveat is that in order to upgrade the firmware
you'd need to get your hands on an older android (< 4.1), since the IOIO v1
bootloader requires that. This would be a one-time process.
