Thanks for taking the time to answer Ytai.

I am getting a little jolt from my servos as my application starts, your 
explanation of the pull up makes sense to me now, I will re-test using pull 
up once I have spliced a resistor into the circuit and revised my code 
slightly to use open drain.

I will also revise what I plan to do with the relay module, I was going to 
use it to to turn some other accessories on and off, so its useful to know 
how to plug that in with open drain enabled too.
I might simplify the robot slightly and leave this out for my first build 
though.
