(I've been thinking of adding better pipe and sigchld support too so that error messages of short-lived programs could be grabbed etc.) Another possibility would be to try to have the xterm started after Ion is finished "secure keyboard", or write a small script that ensures that the xterm has the focus (xterm window id can be found in the WINDOWID environment variable).
