I've been trying to run ion3 under gnome-session[1] but it just exits immediately after gnome-session has called it.
This is what ion prints out to .xsession-errors:
>> Could not load font "-*-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*",
>> trying "fixed"
>> Stack trace:
0 [C]: in 'defstyle'
1 /etc/X11/ion3/look.lua:49
[Skipping unnamed C functions.]
In a sleepless night I hacked up the drawing engine to use fontconfig
i.e. client font management and it then runs nicely but it is a really ugly
hack which doesn't even work 100% and I don't want to maintain this kind of
fork just to this end. So I'm calling upon someone more knowledgeable with
ion (Tuomo?) to fix this or at least point to where in the source I can
look to find the cause of it not being able to get the fonts from X.
For the record this is what I have in the relevant gnome-session conf file:
0,RestartCommand=ion3 -smclientid default0
That's all for now,
Rui
[1] It would be nice to have some of the gnome daemons running so that
applications get more integrated, I don't want nautilus nor any of that
crack which doesn't play well with ion anyway.
