Caps_Lock is supposed to be Control! The Caps_Lock keysym also does not have a special meaning. The Lock modifier has. Only the Mode_Switch, Multi_key (compose), dead* (dead keys for accents) and some XF86_* keysyms themselves have special meanings that I know of. > is there any other way to expand funcionality of particular keys in X > but not with using Mod_switch? WMs don't bother dealing with the complexities of two sets of keycodes: keycodes (HW-dependent) and keysyms (HW-independent, but, unfortunately, not one-to-one with keycodes), and thus simply stick to keycodes as they have to use them in any case for grabs? (I think the proper approach to portable keycodes would be a way to find the HW-dependent keycode based on a query "let us suppose that the kb is of this model (e.g. pc105) and layout (e.g., fi), now does the actual keyboard layout have the key equivalent to the key with this primary name (e.g. AltGr)? Or does it have a key in the same position as this key (e.g. section/ยง) on our supposed keyboard? These QueryKeysyms shoud, however, not be used anywhere else.
