Though this is highly subjective and different for everybody, I'm
interested to know why you say Mod1+space is a bad choice. I use the
scratchpad _a lot_ and I find it very easy to press mod1 with my left
hand, and space( the biggest key on the keyboard) , with my left hand
or right hand at choice. Choosing the key near escape mandates the use
of the left hand, and choosing another key than space will give me a
much smaller key.

Not that I want to enter into an argument here, I'm just curious. And
maybe I can find a better way of working ;-)
