Frame switching broken with new transients?

I have Mod1+Left and Mod1+Right bound to WFrame.switch_prev(_) and 
WFrame.switch_next(_), respectively.  These bindings no longer work with 
the new way transients are handled!  Now the pressing Mod1+Left or 
Mod1+Right with a transient up does nothing!  (Actually, it moves the 
mouse pointer into the transient window that's up.  That's not all that 
useful.)

What can I do to get switch_next and switch_prev to work the way they 
used to?
