shift+insert often works for pasting. Selecting is a program-specific action, sadly enough.
Well you still have standards. Well before C-C, C-V and C-X, the 'standard' set for copying, pasting and cutting are Ctrl+insert and Shift+insert (I can never recall the 'cut' for this one).
