If it's Yeah, the getting out of the way so statusbar can finish setting itself up before attempting to open a connection is a timer hack. After that, well, mpd doesn't push, so we have to pull. Although an event handler could be useful there too to let us get out of the way of other monitors if for some strange reason mpd is slow to respond (across a network?) I'll look into the event stuff in ion3 the next time I get a bit of time I want to spend on this. Maybe I should switch over to ion3-plus?
