I see. But doesn't it make more sense for ion(1) to refer to the
general description of the X Window System? Hmm, maybe not.

Indeed. I filed a bug (#230664) against xserver-common.

No, X is included in the xserver-common package which does not include
that XFree86. It should probably be linked to Xserver(1x) instead,
which appears to describe the X program.
