I've been thinking about this problem in a general-sense and comparisons can be drawn with postscript. Tools that manipulate postscript often stipulate that .ps documents must adhere to the Adobe structuring conventions, which simplifies the amount of work needed to safely manipulate them. -- Jon Dowland http://jon.dowland.name/
