Ion shows on all screens even without Xinerama support. It treats the
screens as if they were one, e.g. you can create frames that span
several screens. With Xinerama, each screen is independent. It sounds
like you don't have Xinerama (but I can't be sure; my screens are the
same size).

You can create additional workspaces by hitting F9, and move between
then with Alt+<digit>. If Xinerama is enabled, workspaces are local to
a screen (i.e. each screen has its own set of workspaces, and they are
controlled independently). If it is disabled, changing workspace will
affect all your screens.
