Abishek last explanation was indeed quite useful. Thanks Abishek! I abandoned the patch <https://gerrit.iotivity.org/gerrit/#/c/1044/>, and created a JIRA bug entry (https://jira.iotivity.org/browse/IOT-596) to capture the issues and discussions. It's currently marked as a minor bug since it's more of a design issue than a functional bug. Feedback would be most welcome.
