Hello JongWoon There are a couple of reasons why a plugin for UPnP is beneficial. In no particular order: * it shows our support for the large investment done in UPnP after OIC's recent merger with the UPnP Forum * it paves the way for accessing certain services that OIC has not yet standardised, but which are sometimes common in home networks. Finding a home gateway and asking for port-forwarding, for example, comes to mind. * in turn, that paves the way for moving those services from the UPnP protocol to the more modern OIC protocol * there's also an eye out to reuse and repurpose the UPnP video-streaming capabilities (where UPnP touches DLNA), embracing them towards OIC too * there are UPnP devices out there. If we have a ZigBee, a ZWave and an AllSeen plugin, why not a UPnP one? I don't have more details about how this is going to be accomplished. The team started working on this in December, shortly before the ISG meeting, and then we had the Christmas break, so not much has happened. But if you're interested, I can put you contact with the team leading this effort. I will also ask them to post their technical proposals and concepts for IoTivity to this mailing list and/or JIRA as soon as they have them.
