I don't have any magic ideas here, just revisiting the topic.

There are >300 pending gerrit patches, and about 80 that are in a
not-blocked state (they don't have downvotes or verify failures and are
not marked unmergeable by gerrit).

Seems like it would be good to get the backlog cleaned a bit - if
patches are old enough, or unmergeable due to later changes, maybe they
could either be refreshed or abandoned?  If the developer is now longer
around the project, I'm not sure how one carries the idea forward.

And for the ones which aren't blocked in some way, is there a way we can
get some of that backlog processed so the developers who submitted them
can move on?

Fishing for suggestions....
