Dave:
This is not considered a conflict, real or potential. Lawyers of all stripes and with differing agendas can and do join and head up committees in bar associations at all levels. It is not uncommon for corporate lawyers to head these committees. These committees sometimes weigh in on issues, but they do not have anywhere near the influence suggested in the AP story. The real influence comes in the all too common forms of political contributions, lobbying, and judicial selection.
