Howdy!
My 7+ years of experience as radio network engineer say that best way to
test limits of throughput is to use UDP.
If there are dropped packets on the way (and that's quite probable when
running bits over the air), TCP will suffer no matter what the settings
are. UDP will just show dropped packets.
Play a bit with bandwidth (-b) to get best idea. I don't know how UDP
and bandwidth setting play along with dual test (-r), if it acts funny,
try to do tests individually by hand (run iperf both as server and client).
Peace!

BOFH excuse #300:
Digital Manipulator exceeding velocity parameters
Alfredo Alcantara je dne 08/04/10 14:28 napisal-a:
Hello all,
I´ve been working with this tool for a while ago, i also find it very
usefull but i´m still having some doubts
First i´m working on a windows enviroment, and using Iperf version 1.7
(the .exe file) so that is my first question
Is there any version better than that? What about those c++ files?
I´m also doing those test with USB modems and i want see from them
with iperf the maximum throughput that they can give (Upload and Download)
so the question is, Do i have to increase the value of the -w
parameter? (I´ve done it and it helps but i don´t know exactly why)
All this in the TCP -r test so Do i have to put the -w parameter in
the client and in the server?
I hope someone can answer in hoping to clarify this matter together,
Thanks in advance and best of regards,
Alfredo Alcantara
