Iperf and uperf are not related, except that they are both network
benchmarking tools.
Uperf is a very flexible and sophisticated performance benchmarking tool
that allows you to run many different kinds of benchmarks, including those
that approximate web workloads. It was started by Sun before the Oracle
acquisition, and it seems to have lost momentum recently. I contributed
to it by giving patches for FreeBSD (and I think Mac OS X). Uperf can be
challenging to setup, but it is a quite good tool.
Iperf is quite well supported, under active development, & has a lot of
momentum. It is incredibly easy to use, but it is much less flexible
If you want to do some simple benchmarking, iperf (or netperf) is a far
better place to start.
