Recent Intel E3 and E5 processors and super-micro motherboards, with Intel 
dual-port 10G NIC
work well for us.  We can send/receive righ at line-speed on both ports 
concurrently with
our version of pktgen, for instance.

You do need pci-e gen2 or higher.
