Would it be fair to say that if the new features are not used, it would be
as robust as the latest 3.x version :)?

I definitely understand the difference in efficiency regarding state table
maintenance as you describe, but given that relatively few people are
running the alpha version, I'm not sure if I want to run it in production
on a critical link.
