Seriously, though, read the FAQ written by Mr. Dibowitz (http://home.earthlink.net/~jaymzh666/ipf/index.html) where it takes you through an entire setup from very basic rules to more advanced. You can see how the logic works with the basic rules, and then see how more advanced requirements can be handled.
As long as you do some planning prior to slapping rules, you should be in good shape. I had to install my first set of rules on a server 100 miles away; you can bet I did a little white-board work prior to setting it up...
