I was looking over the source code for the version of IPFILTER we're
running here, 3.3.18. In ipmon.c, a hash table is used to cache DNS name
lookups. I note that this is no longer the case in newer versions of the
code (e.g. v3.4.31). I couldn't find any reason for this mentioned in the
mailing list archives. I can see where one might drop this code, since the
hash table could easily become outdated over time, as changes are made to the
DNS. Is this why it was removed?
