ipfilter is now part of Solaris 10. To the best of my knowledge, this fact is not noted in the ipfilter documentation, which it could usefully be. It might save someone like myself trying to install it from sources. I realised when the pkgadd gave warnings that it would overwrite some files.

It is also started on Solaris 10 is a an odd way - not the usual /etc/init.d/ipfboot script.

hmm... that would be smf(5)- the way in which almost everything
now started in Solaris.

I'm not running 10 here - only 9. So my only exposure to 10 has been through a friend.

Darren mentions that ipfilter is part of Solaris 10 here:

http://coombs.anu.edu.au/~avalon/ip-filter.html

Which documentation needs to be updated?

I don't recall seeing it in the source - there are just insstructions on how to install it, but no mention that it is already installed.
