No, of course not. And iCloud is not anything like Google’s offering where the 
cloud is in fact required (a google chrome tablet/netbook doesn’t work if it 
can’t access the cloud).

Apple is positioning iCloud to be the antithesis of this, where the cloud is 
there to allow syncing and sharing the data that is stored and preserved on 
your machines.
