I "fixed" the problem by rebooting my router (some 3com thing). Besides the iPhone not working attached to WiFi, even though my Mac Pro did, my wife's iPhone and our family Mac Mini also had the same problem. I had rebooted the WiFi device but that did not fix it (actually I have 2 WiFi networks, one at 5ghz and one at 2.4ghz though the iPhones only see one of them, the Macs see both and the Mac Pro worked on both but the Mini worked on neither). So I started thinking maybe a DHCP issue. The 3com router showed all the devices in its DHCP list but after I restarted it it started working, so something at a low level was munged up.
