Hi: I am wondering if anyone else has seen this issue with IMAP (not MobileMe or iCloud) mail and if so, has found a solution.
Every so often, but seemingly only when the mail app is open, I get a message "<IMAP server> is not responding. Please check the settings and try again" and it can't get mail. This happens sometimes every few days and sometimes many times per day, which gets really annoying. At first, I tried re-entering settings including passwords, which did not help. I tried force quitting the mail app and relaunching which also did not help. Now the only thing that fixes it is to shut off my iPhone or iPad and turn it on again (power down). I am certain that it is not the IMAP server, as when it happens, I test with other devices (typically the other iOS device that is not experiencing the problem at that moment and at least one Mac. They can all get mail just fine, even as the problem iOS device continues to complain. It happens on both my iPhone and iPad. They are both running iOS 5.1.1 (it also happened with 5.1). It happens with other IMAP servers, but my main IMAP service is Gmail, if it matters. Does this happen to anyone else? Any thoughts on fixing it? Thank you for any help you can offer!
