Hello everyone. Another media-related question I'm afraid. I've downloaded
a publication from the App Store to NewsStand, and the phone is telling me
that there is one item in the folder for that publication (which, from what
I've read on the app's info page, should be part of the latest edition).
However, when I double tap on the "one new item" text, the screen won't read
anything. Is NewsStand inaccessible, or does it depend on the publication
in question (are some/all produced as graphics rather than plain text or
something like that)? Also, if either of these is the case, can anyone
please recommend a good alternative way of accessing text-based media
content on the iPhone 4S?
Many thanks, Danny

Subject: iPhone 4S and Microphones/Mixers
Hello everyone. I know that this is quite a niche question, but if anyone
can please advise I'd be very grateful.
I've purchased Smart Recorder for my iPhone 4S and have given it a couple
of basic runs. The internal microphone on the iPhone appears to be very
clear and as good as you'd expect to find on a device like this, but
there's a lot of background hiss which is particularly evident when no
speech occurs. Previous experience of such problems on the laptop implies
to me that this is caused by the fact that the mic being used does not
have any power source of its own (it isn't wired and isn't drawing power
from an external source such as a computer or mixer).
The phone is therefore handy as a notetaker or even an impromptue recorder
for more detailed things, but as a journalist who might want to capture
recordings at any time and would enjoy not having to carry extra equipment
for the purpose, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any way in which
stronger external microphones/mixers can be connected to the 4s? I have
only noted a headphone jack, so presume that there is no way of plugging
anything in, but wondered about the existence/feasibility of bluetooth or
USB microphones/mixers (which could presumably be plugged into the power
charging/data transfer socket) that are compatible with the device.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated, as will thoughts on any other
recording/editing apps for the phone.
Best wishes, Danny

smartalbums and standard albums
I did not find a way in iPhoto but you can easily do this in the Photos
app:
- Go to album (or event, or photo stream)
- tap the share button at top right
- select photos
- tap "Save"
- "Save to New Album" (or existing)
- That's it
After you change back to iPhoto and the tedious "Updating Photo Library",
the album is accesible.
Cheers,
Robert
