I think it is more than just the antenna. I think the iPhone has a new single chip that supports everything while those Android phones that support both have separate LTE and CDMA chips in them. LTE is data only so you have to activate both circuits and in the iPhone there is only one to activate. That is what I inferred from reading some articles talking about it.
