Still having trouble finding a reliable transit app for Rome. At this point, I don't even care if it interfaces with Apple Maps. A friend of mine who is currently in Rome, says when you tap a bus icon or train icon in Google Maps, it uniformly says it can't provide any information.
I tried SmartMaps - Rome, but I couldn't really test it because it seems the most effective way to use it is to use location services and GPS, and since I'm not in Rome, I can't do as Romans do. I downloaded SmartMaps - Seattle to test it. When I asked for a bus nearby, it showed the closest one being nearly a mile away when there is a very active bus stop 2 blocks from me. I've also tried Transit (one of the Apple Maps suggested apps from the App Store) to search for bus routes in Rome for my friend. I entered an address that I know is one block from a bus stop as the starting point and another address that has a couple of bus stops within 2-4 blocks as the destination. Transit says "No transit direction can be found". I found another app called Roma Maps and Metro, but while it shows SOME bus stops, when you tap on a bus icon, nothing happens. There's no name, no information, certainly no bus schedules. Bing only seems to show driving directions, no public transport. MapQuest, the same. Some of these apps are free, several, I've purchased. I guess I'm most interested in Transit apps for Seattle and Rome at the moment, but I'm also curious as to what apps people are using and which ones are accurate and full-featured (provide realtime schedules, directions etc.)? -K
