After upgrading to iOS12, outbound emails on my iPhone fail because iOS will
not retain the authentication type I select for the SMTP server. I'm running
the standard iOS Mail app with no extensions.

On the iPhone in Settings->Accounts I set the SMTP server authentication type
to MD5 (which is required by the mail server). I press "Done" and it accepts
the selection and "verifies" it with a green checkmark. But when I go back into
the setting, it shows nothing is selected for authentication! Without MD5, the
server rejects my outbound emails. (Inbound IMAP emails are received fine.)

Has anyone else seen this? I've tried deleting the account, adding another
server entry, etc, but the same behavior obtains. Is there any kind of master
mail reset I can perform?
