Yeah, it unfortuntely does get rid of the hacks, but that is not even the worst part. If you had hacked the iPhone, when you do the update, it will fail, and the iPhone will go into recovery mode, which forces you to do a restore. "But that's OK, the entire iPhone is backed up". WRONG. Things like music and your address book are backed up, but the following are not:
- All of my text messages - All of the photos I took using the built in camera (luckily they were backed up in iPhoto, but I am guessing they will be gone even if they aren't backed up) - My YouTube bookmarks - All of my stocks - My Maps bookmarks and recents - All of my weather locations - My world clock locations and alarm clocks - All of my notes (and there was no way to back these up in the first place) - All of my settings (especially the known wifi locations) - All of my phone favorites and recents - All of my e-mail accounts Most of these things are easy to put back on, but it is still a disappointment that they were not completely backed up in the first place (considering it would've taken up very little space since they are pretty much all text-based settings). I find it very unacceptable that my text messages, camera photos, and notes were not backed up. The other things I can overlook, but not those. Also, I was using solely IMAP and Yahoo e-mail, so all of my messages reappeared when I re-added my accounts. I don't even want to think about what happens if you had been using POP.
