I think when you are starting out with a new company, if someone else launches a website with your name in it, it may cripple you because you may not yet be established. People won't know which one is you and which one is the copy-cat. When you get as large as apple is, and as well known as the iphone is, then that same scenario can be free advertising and increase the public awareness of your brand and/or product.
