Interesting.  I've been trying to use -webkit-border-image on submit  
buttons and there is an annoying shadow and rounded edges showing up  
that isn't there when using the same class on links or divs.  Do you  
think -webkit-appearance could hide the default submit brb shadow?   
I'll play with that property tonight & let you know my findings.
