Thought the group might be interested in our new iPhone app -- iPocketBible. Details at www.ipocketbible.com. If any of the developers here are interested in taking it for a spin, let me know and I'll sign you up for free access for 30 days. If you have questions about implementation let me know.
iPocketBible is essentially an e-book reader but with a lot of hyperlinking between the books, powerful searching, and access to a fairly large library of Bibles and reference titles (a little over 100 titles right now). The program has a fixed title bar at the top and tool bar at the bottom with a contents div in the middle. Contents are delivered via ajax from our database. Customers have accounts that contain records of what books they've purchased, so the program has to handle giving access to only those titles the user is authorized to see. Users can also have their own notes, highlights, and bookmarks (not all of those are implemented yet) and the program controls that information, modifying the text retrieved from the database to include the user's custom information. This is definitely work-in-progress, which is the beauty of a Web app. Fellow iPhoneWebDev member Jim Coates was responsible for all the Javascript work on the site; my job was mostly managing the data flow and presentation. Jim also did a lot of the back-end e-commerce work to support monthly subscriptions and rights management. We mostly are lurkers here in the group but we appreciate all the questions and answers we've seen from others that have often given us ideas for the product.
