Our iPocketBible program is essentially an ebook reader, though targeted at Bibles and Bible reference books. We solve the page- turning problem two ways: In the default mode of the program there is a fixed toolbar at the bottom of the screen that contains the "next page" button. Unfortunately that means you have to scroll with two fingers and the amount of real estate for text is limited. However, a tap in the right or left margin will give you the option of switching modes so that the toolbar goes away and you can use traditional one- finger "flick" scrolling. In this mode, double tapping in the right margin turns the page so there's no need to scroll to the top/bottom or activate any controls in order to flip pages. There's a demo of our program at http://www.ipocketbible.com if you're interested.
