Hi Russ, Even though the iPhone has a unique serial number built into the device neither it nor the iphone number is available through the safari browser.
As well the IP address would not work as I have seen 5 different ips in just a couple minutes from one iphone. The way I work it is to have the iphone register with my web apps (basically creating a user account) and then log a unique id on the particular iphone in a cookie. It is not terribly secure as one could always copy the cookie with some diligence but it gives a way to uniquely identify each user. Hope that helps. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of russgum Sent: Friday, January 11, 2008 1:17 PM To: iPhoneWebDev Subject: sending iphone's phone number in a web form I would like to send the phone number of any iphone sending webforms to my server. This way I can set up a secure system with only authorized iphones using my web app. This app generates sales orders and load orders so I do need to be sure they are coming from specific phone numbers. Is this possible? If not are there other ways to identify the source of webforms?
