Heh, I wrote all my web apps on an old Win98 machine... notepad, or wordpad if the source got too long.
My goal was to build apps that not only worked on iPhone/iPod touch, but also worked on IE. I used the emulator at testiphone.com during development. http://testiphone.com/?address=off&url=http://www.myhip.com/iphone.html As for final testing, I'd go to the local Apple store and try the apps on their demo models.
