The plan at this stage is to get the best functionality
and usability for the remote desktop app proper.
Designing and coding for general library takes much
more time than I have at the moment. Once it is out
and used for a while, to smooth out any rough edges,
I might rework the functionality as an autonomous DOM
element with conventional interfaces, at which point it
could be generally useful. The bitmaps will be included
in the pre-release (sometimes next week) that uses the
new multi-touch & CSS features of iPhone 2 Safari.

That keyboard should have been provided as DOM HTMLElement
with full control of activation, events, styling, custom keys,... etc.
It
seems they have rushed it out as soon as the desired look and
feel for the end user were achieved and no thought was given to
its usability by the web apps. The latest iPhone 2.0 broke further
even that half baked version -- the keystroke lag, thread hogging
(which blocks http requests), broken "keypress" event
("keyup" still works), lost kbd type selection, missing activation
from touch events,....
