Viral? Spam? I disagree with the above hyperbole. So what if you have to release your updates?
I was looking at http://www.minid.net/iphone/ and at first I was like ,.... where's the javascript :) Looks good to me a different implementation than iUI with more UI customizations. Probably could be used more like 'standard' apps.
