If there was some Wiki or somewhere to post sample code in more detail than can be posted in a discussion thread I'd be glad to share the code for what it's worth to anyone. Not only does it handle the startup image to webview logic, but it also handles saving username/ password from a web-based login form into the iPhone userDefaults and it handles simulating a javascript alert since alert() is not supported in UIWebView and must call a native objective-c dialog instead.
