I'm afraid not understanding well … : /
Are you talking about recreating the default iPhone style using gradient 
instead of png files ?
In this direction, i've start a couple of things but some elements (specially 
buttons) can't be exactly the same using gradients only (since you can't use a 
gradient as a border for example)

This Android theme massively use gradients for everything but icons. png files 
is 32kb + the font (37kb). can't really do lighter :)
