As a proof-of-concept, I attached handlers to the touch events on a DIV, and
they change its background color after 500ms if the finger remains down on
it for that duration. But I've been unable to trap the touch events on
text-INPUT elements. Is there a way to do that?

My goal is to present the user with a little context-menu attached to the
text INPUT, from which they can select a couple of characters not found on
their virtual keyboard or on any of the context-menus associated with the
individual keys; the chosen key would either be appended to the INPUT's
value or would replace any selected text, as the case may be. I have this
working in desktop browsers and hope there's a counterpart for touch
devices.
