Jonathan,

These features can be emulated with Javascript, via the gesture API - to
detect a pinch/zoom, you look at the e.scale attribute of a gesture. This
article shows the basic approach you'll need to take (look at the "Gestures"
and "Resizing and Rotating with the Gestures API"):

Because they are not "those" kind of maps. Think more the type of map you
pick up at the gate of a theme park. These maps are for events.

Thanks

Hello all,

I am developing a very basic mobile web app. You can tap links and
information will be loaded via AJAX and slide in mimicking the behavior of a
typical iPhone application. In order to maintain a "static" toolbar with
back button and still allow the content to scroll, I am using a modified
version of iScroll ( http://cubiq.org/iscroll ). Now I want to add maps
functionality. These "maps" will just be images that should be able to be
zoomed in/out. I am thinking that they will probably just be PNGs unless one
of you fine folks has a better suggestion. I would consider SVG, but my app
needs to remain Android compatible.

So my question is this? What do you think is the best way to accomplish the
viewing of these maps? I would really like to be able to keep my static
"toolbar" in place, which means (as far as I know) that I can't use native
zoom functions (double tap on Android, pinch on iPhone). I could just link
to the images and let the native browser do the heavy lifting, but I don't
really want to have to leave the application look and feel. Can these zoom
gestures be emulated via Javascript?

Suggestions and pointers are appreciated.

Thanks!
Jonathan
