There is an increase in the number of posters who reply by placing
their comments at the top, followed by a quote of the entire post they
are replying too. This is called "top posting" and is a less than
optimal use of resources.

Top posting is disliked because it disrupts the flow of logic, replies
are not correlated with the statements or paragraphs they are replying
to and the vast bulk of many posts is useless junk added as signatures
or by the host.

The following guidelines were developed during the evolution of
Usenet, on which Google Groups is based, to provide a much more
efficient posting style. If it is adopted here, use of this group
(especially for those using e-mail) will be much more efficient:

 1. Reply directly *below* the paragraph or statement you are replying
to
 2. Trim all irrelevant bits from the quoted part of the reply
 3. Do not quote signatures or anything below the signature (i.e.
remove everything from the signature down).

Why is Bottom-posting better than Top-posting:

I am not posting this because I am some kind of anal net-cop, but
because a better posting style leads to much more useable resource. It
also shows that the poster has probably read the post they are
replying to and thought about their reply in sufficient detail to
remove irrrelevant material.
