In order to active SOL session, the user must have the USER privilege. Also,
the Session must be established with the authentication enable. This means
that you need also at least to use the Cipher Id 1 (see IPMI spec for all the
details). It is preferable to add the '-C 1' option to your list of
parameters. There is also another parameter that state the minimum privilege
required to establish a SOL session parameter available with the command Get
SOL Parameters - param #2). There is also the privilege possible for a
specific channel.

As you can see, there is a lot of reasons why activate a SOL session may not
work. Execute the command with -vvvvvv in order to get more input. I might be
able to find the problem with the result.

Objet : [Ipmitool-devel] privilege question

Hi,
I've got some probleme whith the sol activate command. On the host
who have the ipmi card, i can do:
# ipmitool -I lanplus -U ADMIN -H 195.101.129.45 -P ADMIN sol activate

But from a different machine, i've got a "Error activating SOL payload:
Insufficient privilege level". But I can execute other commands like
power cycle etc..

What's wrong with privileges ?
