Is this the graphical or the text menu? The text menu works for me assuming you have the right font and terminal emulation.
To enable text mode, make sure you have lines like the following commented out: #splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz --David > Hi, > > I'm running ipmitool.
